Forever Blowin' In the Wind

This song makes me thing about the situation around the world and in my country right now. This song is by Bob Dylan and was very popular as a protest song in the 60s. Is sad how the human race never learns from its mistakes...

PS: Bob Dylan = GOD :)

This song is just beautiful and it makes me sad at the same time. Written by Bob Dylan but sang by Joan Baez in this version. I like this one better than his version, it´s more soulful.

Thoughts on Happiness

Together

Today I was talking to my parents and, I'm not sure how, the topic of happiness arouse. Both my parents started saying that there was no such thing as happiness, that it didn't existed. I've never been the most optimistic person in the world but hearing them say that, sounding so bitter, made me sad somehow.

My father asked me to define what happiness was, I was angry at this point, so I just shrugged and told him they where both too bitter and cynical. I don't really know what happiness is or if I'm going to get there one day, but I still want to believe it exists. And if it doesn't exist I would prefer not to find out.

People always say that you learn this kind of things when you get older. My thoughts on that is that I would rather die waiting for happines and believing it will come than getting old in survival mode, not believing in anything. So if I ever grow old that way and we know each other when that happens, I will kindly ask you to shoot me, cause it sounds better than living that way.

Any thoughts on that? Am I just too naive?

Randomness (Songs I Liked)

I'm still waiting for the book, ordered it from Amazon, I'll probably have it by next week. Even then it will take me a while to read it because of school and other stuff, but I'll get there. So I thought I should write about something else in the meantime, so...

I've been completely obsessed with Spring Awakening for about a week and a half now (I know is a couple of years late but whatever). I saw a bootleg of the show (I love the internet =] ) and I just can't get enough of it. For those who don't know, Spring Awakening is a musical play, for details: ask Wikipedia.

I was looking for videos of the original broadway cast of the show and I found a few interesting ones, they are not from the show, they are singing something else. The entire cast is extremely talented, but some of them called my attention a little bit more.

Interestingly enough, my favorite cast members are not the three that played the central characters: Lea Michele (Wedla), Jonathan Groff (Melchior) and Jonh Gallager Jr. (Moritz). Still, I do like them a lot, especially JGJ as Moritz, and Lea Michele is doing a great job in Fox's Glee.

So here they are:

Phoebe Strole and Skylar Astin. She played Anna, one of the minor characters, and also understudied for Ilse and Wedla. He played Georg, you don't see much of him in the show, but he has an amazing voice, plus he's cute :).

I really liked this video, the musical arrangement of the song is cool and the lyrics are funny :) , plus I love how they look like they are having so much fun singing this. The song is from Kerrigan and Lowdermilk.

Another song by Kerrigan and Lowdermilk, performed by Phoebe Strole. This song is just beautiful.

Lauren Pritchard. She played Ilse, she's also a songwritter, this is one of her own songs.  Ilse sings in 2 of my favorite songs from the show :).

Anyway I just wanted an excuse to share this three songs, because I liked them a lot. Enjoy. =]

1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die (Or Not)

In adition to the books and the movies there's also a list of the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. I don't intend to follow this list, because it just doesn't convince me. They have some albums that are pretty cool for my own personal taste, but I feel they don't really go past the obvious.

For starters, any list that says that before I die I have to listen to Britney Spears' Baby One More Time (and I did because I fitted right into it's demographics at the time it got released), Justin Timerlake's Justified, and, oh yeah, Cristina Aguilera's Stripped, automatically loses my respect. But apart from that, the authors of this list seem to think that the only music worth listening to is that which was recorded in english.

Granted it features some artists that are pretty awesome and influencial, like Bob Dylan (whom I love), The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, Simon & Garfunkel, but just because they where, and still are, great, it doesn't mean you have to list every single album they ever released. I mean, just pick one or two of the most influential ones and leave some room for a little more variety.

It doesn't help it's case that it lists all three Nirvana albums (Nevermind, In Utero, MTV Unplugged), whom I think are the single most overrated band in, at least, the last 30 years. Sure they included a couple of albums from those "obscure" bands. I'm sorry did I say obscure? It's like they where sitting around and one of them said: "Hey maybe we should put an album or two that not everybody knows, I read the names Fugazi and Husker Du somewhere in the net, how about them?". (Probably in some site of people discussing the origins of emo, back in 2004).

Sure it has some of my favorite albums in it, it even features my favorite album of all times (Tori Amos' 1992 debut album Little Earthquakes). It still puts me off that the whole list features exactly 18 albums that where not recorded in english, 18 out of 1001!! I know I should probably cut them some slack since they all probably speak english, but if you're going to make a list almost entirely out of english speaking artist, at least name it right: 1001 Albums (in English) You Must Hear Before You Die.

1001 Books to Read.

I've always liked reading but I don't do it that much anymore, I mean for fun. So I found this book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die, and decided that I wanted to read them all, to pick up my old habit :).

I was going to read them in a chronological order, but then i thought that would be a little monotonous so I decided to go about them randomly. Of the 1001 books in the list I've read (what?) only 5 books, as you can see, I'm way behind.
Now if you do a little blog search in google you'll notice there's already a lot of people doing the same thing (reading the books and then posting about them), but I don't care because this is a personal goal :). The idea is to read book by book and post a little review, but i won't tell the whole book cause if I do maybe you won't want to read them.
I figured it would be a better way to spend my time than playing farmville =P (those with a Facebook will understand).
There are a few books that are not in the list that I also want to read, so if I read one of those and post about them I'll indicate that they are not part of the list.
I'm going to do the movies also, latter on.
So I have had this blog (the acount created anyways) for a while now, without anything to really post. Well I hope somebody cares and read it, but if not, hey at least I'll be gaining a little culture :).

Btw: I'm writing in english because most titles are in english and i thought it would be easier for me that way.

So I spinned the wheel (little random number generator) and i got #616, title of the book: Summer Will Show by: Sylvia Townsend Warner. Great, now i just have to get the book, cause i don't have that one.
